The King of Nepal: Adventurous Smuggler Tales from the Top of the World
Hippy and hash dealer Joseph R. Pietri was lured to Nepal in the 1970s in search of the best hash in the world. Back then, hemp products were still completely legal and hashish was the true “King of Nepal”.
That soon changed due to pressure from the US. As a young man and cannabis smoker in New York in the roaring '60s, he started distributing the coveted substance, always looking for the best quality.
In 1970 he fled to Nepal and befriended the Buddhist chief lama of the holy place Boudhanath, the "Chine Lama".
He and his family supported Pietri in smuggling the best temple ball hashish. It was not until 1973 that hashish was banned under American pressure. The book contains exciting stories about smuggling over two decades and across several countries, until Pietri was finally arrested in Laos in 1992 and handed over to the US authorities. There he wrote down his fascinating memories of his time in extradition prison.
